I am excited to present a review of EDGE OF TRUTH by Natasha Hanova. Since I have published my own book I have loved getting to know other authors. It’s hard to believe that when I began my own publishing journey four months ago I didn’t know any other authors, and now there are several authors who I am happy to call a friend, this includes Natasha Hanova. Of course, once I get to know an author, I am compelled to want to read his or her book. I got to know Natasha the opposite way. I found her book first and then got to know her 🙂 I had added EDGE OF TRUTH to my Goodreads to-read list, and then contacted her to review it. My policy is, I’ll only review a book if it’s one I actually want to read, and EDGE OF TRUTH sounded fantastic!
A YA dystopian novel, EDGE OF TRUTH, is centered on Rena Moon, a teenage girl who is going through the day-to-day motions of school and her monotonous internship while attempting to hide her supernatural abilities. For those who aren’t familiar with the new dystopian genre, think Hunger Games, a futuristic, post-disaster, new-world sort of story. Rena isn’t happy with the governmental system and dreams of one day making enough money to move away to a better city. She’s not afraid to break a rule here and there and acknowledges that she won’t stay in her cookie cutter life forever.
After stepping a little too far out of the boundaries, she unceremoniously meets Nevan, who ends up being her saving grace. It doesn’t hurt that she’s had a major crush on him forever, and it almost seems too good to be true that the guy she’s dreamed about is suddenly a central part of her life. It doesn’t take long for the reader to discover why she likes him so much. Not only is he completely good looking, but he’s also talented and has a great personality.
Even though Rena likes him, she is leery of trusting anyone with her huge secrets. In the current government, it is not okay to have supernatural abilities. Those who display unique gifts tend to disappear, and that makes it difficult to put too much trust in anyone. She has also discovered a way that may one day break her free from her preordained future. She wants to open up to Nevan completely but is understandably hesitant.
I love the characters in the story, even the supporting characters like Rena’s best friend, Blaze, and Nevan’s adorable sister, Chai. Each character has unique personality traits that are cleverly developed and help to carry the story. EDGE OF TRUTH was a fast-read, page turner, and as I was reading it, I kept wondering if there was going to be a sequel because I didn’t want the story to end. In fact, as soon as I finished the story, I had to contact Natasha to ask her if she had plans for a sequel. I won’t reveal what she told me, but I will say that any future books this talented writer publishes I will definitely be reading!

Citizens who report to work on time, obey the Overlord’s laws, and stay off the Synbot’s radar, live long lives. Long, dull, monotonous lives.
It’s not a bad plan for someone with a hidden, emotion-based ability to trigger earthquakes. In a world pitted against her, sixteen-year-old Rena Moon strives for a life beyond working herself to death at the factory. Seeing an alternative, she risks selling relics from the forbidden lands at Market. It becomes the worst decision she ever made. Someone kidnaps her best friend in exchange for the one thing that would end her oppression.
Driven by loyalty, Rena and seventeen-year-old Nevan Jelani, soulful composer, green thumb extraordinaire, and the secret love of her life, plot to rescue her friend and reclaim her salvage. Still, the thought lingers whether Nevan is a true hero or another thief waiting for his chance at her loot. Events spin wildly, deepening Rena’s suspicions and pushing her limit of control. With more than her chance for freedom at stake, she must decide if she’s willing to kill to protect what’s precious to her. For once, the Overlord isn’t holding all the power, but can Rena live with being reduced to what she’s trying so hard to escape?

I am thrilled to present an interview with Suzanne Carroll. An author from Sydney, Australia, I have enjoyed chatting with Suzanne and getting to know her over the past few months, and I am happy to be able to call her my friend. Not only is she my friend, but she is also a very talented romance author. I have just finished reading her debut novel, OVER THE EDGE, and give it 5 enthusiastic stars. The characters were authentic and likeable, the conversations seemed real, and it was a fast, easy read. I also caught myself laughing out loud several times, which I don’t often do when I read 🙂
Her sweet, funny personality comes out in her interview. I encourage all of my romance author fans to read her outstanding book. Links are provided at the end of the interview so that you can purchase OVER THE EDGE and follow her on Facebook. She is also offering one eBook copy in a giveaway. You’ll find the link for the giveaway at the end of the interview as well 🙂
1. What inspired you to write OVER THE EDGE? Was it an idea that slowly formed over time or did
it suddenly hit you? Once you had the idea in your head, did you begin writing immediately or did it
take a while to get started?
Mm, well, it’s a bit of both, really. The opening scene with Zoe running away from her wedding planner suddenly hit me after a conversation about wedding disasters, but from there the rest was more of a slow formation. As for writing it down, I wrote that first scene, then mulled the rest over for a while, sorting it out in my head before putting it to paper.
2. The reviews for OVER THE EDGE on Amazon and Goodreads are amazing! For anyone who hasn’t
read the book, one glance at the reviews would definitely convince people to read it. Now that your
debut novel has been so well received, do you have any future projects in the works?
Thank you J I am working on something new. Another romantic comedy but this one has a bit of mystery running through it.
3. In one sentence, sum up OVER THE EDGE.
Over The Edge is about living the life you want, not the life you think you’re supposed to have.
4. I always have to ask about food because that is one of my favorite things 🙂 What is your favorite
writing snack and beverage?
Oh dear, I’m going to fail this question, lol! I’m afraid I forget to eat or drink when I’m writing and then I sit at the keyboard stupidly wondering why I’ve got a headache and my mouth is so dry! That’s when I get up and grab whatever’s in the cupboard. But, having said that, I love fruit-and-nut chocolate. And pasta. But not together. Of course.
5. I am fascinated with the fact that you live in Australia. I’ve wanted to visit Australia, since the first time I saw Crocodile Dundee when I was a kid, LOL 🙂 If I was to take a vacation to your town and you were my tour guide, what would be the top three places you would take me to see?
Mm, well I live in Sydney so I’d probably start by taking you to see the obvious things like the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. And if we’re only keeping it to Sydney, then we’d go and wander around the historic Rocks area down by the harbour. After that we could go on the rides at Luna Park J
6. For some odd reason, probably because I’ve watched too many movies, I always imagine that people who live in other countries (outside of the U.S.) are great world travelers. I know of course this isn’t true for everyone, but there’s my writer’s imagination for you 🙂 Have you traveled to other places outside of Australia? If so what were they? Are there any places on your “want to see someday” travel list?
I visited the UK and parts of Europe when I was in my twenties, and more recently New Zealand with my family. My “want to see someday” list is quite long, but near the top are Pompeii and New York, and I also think a trip on the Orient Express would be pretty cool J
7. When you’re not writing and working on promoting your book, what do you enjoy doing for fun?
For fun? Mm… I like bushwalking. And reading. Lots of reading J
8. What is your favorite book and/or author? Or if you’re like me and can’t pick just one, feel free to pick 2 or 3 🙂
Okay, it’s going to have to be 2 or 3 or 47! I love Ben Elton’s books. And Philippa Gregory’s. I’m a huge fan of Douglas Adams and Agatha Christie and I loved the Harry Potter books. One of my favourite books is by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, called “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society” – it’s a gorgeous, gentle, subtle love story that just sweeps you up.
9. What is your favorite movie?
Wow, this made me think. I don’t know if I have a favourite movie. Um… okay, it’s an old movie, but I really like Arsenic and Old Lace with Cary Grant. I also really like Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
10. What is the nicest thing someone has ever said to you, personally or in a review, about OVER THE
I’ve been so overwhelmed by the lovely things people have had to say about Over The Edge. One
reviewer said she couldn’t put it down and had kept reading it even while she was brushing her teeth!
In six weeks Zoe Harper will marry Dan Costi in an over-the-top Sydney society wedding, complete with fire-eaters and belly dancers. But when she receives an unexpected gift from her future mother-in-law, Zoe realizes she’s making a huge mistake. In a blazing sidewalk argument, she breaks up with her fiancé, and his mother-who has joined the fight via conference call. Following the advice of friends and co-workers, along with some inspiration from late-night-television self-help guru Dr. Pam, Zoe sets out to find the life she thinks she should be living. Always a planner, she makes a list of goals: travel, career, tattoos, and no romantic entanglements. It’s all carefully laid out, until she meets Angus Creed. Angus is supposed to lead the opening waltz at a charity ball in New York City. Only problem is the handsome billionaire construction magnate with the tabloid past can’t dance. Not one step. Tainted by gossip and with a well-publicized failed engagement behind him, Angus has become a master at keeping an emotional distance. Until he meets Zoe. What starts as dancing lessons, slowly becomes something more. Angus begins to let down his guard and open his heart, even when his past makes an unexpected and unwelcome return. As Zoe discovers the real man behind the headlines, she questions where her new choices are taking her. Her goals look good on paper, but are they what she really wants? And by the time she realizes where her heart lies, will it be too late?

I am thrilled to present the first interview on my blog, from my very good friend and fellow author, J.L. Berg. Her debut novel, When You’re Ready, was released only a week ago, and already it is climbing the charts at an amazing rate on Amazon and has received rave reviews.
J.L.’s witty sense of humor shines through, not only in her interview, but in her writing as well. If you love a good romance novel that pulls at the heart strings, makes you laugh, makes you cry, and makes you wish the hunky heartthrob could step out of the pages into real life then this is the novel you have been waiting for. Please, enjoy her interview and then check out a short synopsis of the book followed by links where you can download a sample of her book and/or buy it.
Me: It sounds like you’ve had a few jobs since high school. What made you finally decide to become an author?
J.L.: I’ve honestly always loved writing but I lacked the confidence to pursue it so I shelved it as a pipe dream for most of my life. I finally got to the point where I couldn’t hold the ideas in my head anymore. I had to get them out and so I started writing. It then took a huge leap of faith to allow myself to open up and let others read what I had created. I’m so glad I did because it has been one of the greatest journeys of my life.
Me: WHEN YOU’RE READY has very authentic characters who make the reader truly care about them. Where did your inspiration for the story and/or characters come from?
J.L.: I take my inspiration from those around me, as well as where I see a character in terms of emotional growth. Many of my characters have personality traits of those I love, and yet their overall character is vastly different. Logan reminds me of my husband in many ways. His quick sense of humor, his fierce protective instinct. But yet Logan is his own character and not at all my husband. I think creating characters is about taking what you know and what you imagine and combining them together to create something entirely new and unique.
Me: I understand that you’re currently working on the second book in the READY series. How do you plan your stories? Is the next book all in your head or is it a surprise as you write it?
J.L: I usually plan out a rough outline, but that is about it. I like to know where certain scenes are placed so I can make sure I’m pacing correctly, but when I sit down to write, I usually let my imagination take over. Sometimes my fingers just start typing, and the scene takes on a life of its own, going in a completely different direction than I had intended. Those are usually my best scenes, the ones created out of spontaneous chaos.
Me: In one sentence, sum up WHEN YOU’RE READY.
J.L.: A grieving widow finds love after the loss of her husband with a man who finally realizes he’s worthy enough to love her back.
Me: I have to ask questions about three of my favorite things. Children, Food, and Animals. So, first off, I understand that you have children. What do they think about their momma being an author. Is there an age limit before they will be allowed to read your book?
J.L.: My daughters (ages 6 and 9) think it’s REALLY cool that their Mommy is an author. They tell everyone. My youngest wants me to tell everyone because she really thinks I’m that famous. We were out to dinner the other day, and she told me to tell our waitress I was THE J.L. Berg, like I was Madonna or something. I politely declined and kept my superstar status to myself. :-)As far as age limit. I’ve decided they can read it when I die. Yep, that sounds good.
Me: I’ve gotta ask about food. What’s your favorite writing snack? How about a favorite writing beverage?
J.L.: Chocolate – the darker the better, and decaf coffee. Or wine.
Me: I’ve adopted two animals from animal rescues this year and they are already a huge part of my family. It sounds like you have a pet or two yourself. Tell me about your furry (or slimy) creatures. Feel free to share their quirky personalities.
J.L.: We adopted two rescues dogs as well. We have a dachshund mix named Bella (yes, I named her after THAT Bella), and a black lab named Charlotte. Bella is our crazy one, and Charlotte is our calm mellow dog.
Me: What is your dream vacation?
J.L.: It’s kind of a cheat because I’ve already been there, but my dream vacay is Ireland. My husband i went there for our ten year anniversary, and I am dying to go back. It was magical.
Me: What is your favorite book and/or author? Or if you’re like me and can’t pick just one, feel free to share 2 or 3 🙂
J.L.: It’s really, really hard for me to pick one favorite book. I usually say Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, but there are about 5 to 10 others that come in a close second. I love anything by Colleen Hoover and Abbi Glines. I love the Blackdagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward, and the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. I could go on and on….I’m a total book nerd.
Me: Be a salesperson. If there was a commercial to sell WHEN YOU’RE READY, what would it say?
J.L.: I love my tag line, so we’ll go with that…“Can his love mend the pieces of her grieving heart?”
Now that you’re intrigued by this amazing author, here’s the summary from WHEN YOU’RE READY:
Can his love mend the pieces of her grieving heart?
Years after suffering the tragic loss of her husband, Ethan, which left her alone to raise their young daughter, Clare Murray still holds the last letter he wrote with the words “When You’re Ready” written in his familiar messy handwriting, unable to break its weathered seal. Ready for what? He was her entire world, and Clare had accepted a life without him, without love. Until years later, fate brings her to an emergency room, and face to face with a stormy-eyed doctor intent on changing her mind.
Logan Matthews is the son of a billionaire who has spent his entire life trying to make his absent father proud. Years of living up to a man who was more ghost than father, and a publicly failed marriage has left Logan cold and emotionless until he walks into an exam room and discovers a woman who can stop his heart, make his body burn with desire and leave his entire world altered.
But how far are Clare and Logan willing to go for love? When their love is tested, is Clare ready to put her whole heart on the line again? Can Logan learn the true meaning of love, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness? When a second chance at love is given, Clare and Logan learn you never know if you are truly ready until you’re ready to risk it all.
A huge thank you goes out to Arizona Cattle Dog Rescue! What an amazing animal rescue organization! I’m passionate about the importance of animal rescues, and this particular rescue does an incredible job taking in Cattle Dogs in need of a home, from around Arizona. Several of the dogs that they have taken in are blind and/or deaf, and yet their passion for animals shines through as they lovingly take them in until they can find their forever home. The sweet little guy in the picture with me is my new little buddy that I adopted this morning. We are so excited to welcome him in to our home. Our husky is perhaps just as excited to have a friend to play with I can’t believe how well behaved and well trained my new puppy already is. It is very apparent that Arizona Cattle Dog Rescue has spent a lot of loving time with him!
So, about that FREE eBook With the amazing job that the rescue does, also comes a lot of expenses. Every dog that they send to a new home goes fully vetted i.e., spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Not to mention the cost of dog food! So, I would absolutely love to give back to them!
From today through Sunday, July 21st, I will donate a FREE eBook copy of INDIGO INCITE to every person who donates AT LEAST $5 to Arizona Cattle Dog Rescue. Simply follow the link to their website and from their you can make a TAX DEDUCTIBLE, online donation through PayPal After that, just send me a message that you donated and I’ll get you set up with a free book
Thank you in advance for your support of animal rescues! The organization is very excited for this fundraiser and will be VERY appreciative of your donation! Plus, you’ll get a FREE book. So, it’s a win-win for everyone
Still on vacation in Montana, I’m excited to announce that INDIGO INSTINCT, book 2 of the INDIGO TRILOGY, is now completely outlined. The fates of the Indigo Children have been plotted 🙂 It’s going to be VERY, VERY good. I can’t wait to share it with you!!
With one week left of vacation, we are squeezing in non-stop fun. My husband and I were lucky enough to send the kids off with the grandparents so we could enjoy our anniversary getaway in the Swan Mountain Range. We first visited the Swan about ten years ago, and I immediately fell in love with the place! After looking at the few option of places to stay, we decided on the Laughing Horse Lodge. Unsure of what to expect, I was tickled pink when we pulled up front to the quaint little lodge. The whiteboard, posted on the front porch, announced that check-in was self-service. As you can see on the sign, we were in room #2. The sign announced that our room was unlocked and we could find the key on the windowsill:-) I immediately knew that I was going to love the place! I wish I had more pictures to share because it doesn’t do it justice. Each room has a private entrance and the inside is cleverly decorated to look like a log cabin. So cute!! The back yard had a beautiful flower garden and green foliage and chairs to relax in, a perfect, inviting spot that called out and said “relax for a while and read a good book!”.
Dinner was just as entertaining. Laughing Horse also boasts a gourmet restaurant, and the ever friendly chef who came out to greet the restaurant patrons, was none other than the owner herself. My seared ahi steak on a fresh bed of lettuce, picked from the garden out back, was incredible! Breakfast was amazing as well, blueberry & peach pancakes, eggs, and fresh bacon.
If you ever get a chance to vacation in Montana, the Seeley/Swan Range is a must-see, and if you’re looking for overnight lodging that feels like authentic Montana, don’t hesitate to stay at The Laughing Horse. I can’t wait to go back again!!

So, what does one do when it’s 110 degrees outside? Begin writing the second book of the Indigo trilogy of course! It probably sounds odd to my “non-writing” friends, but I am so excited to begin writing “Indigo Instinct”! I feel like I get to “talk” to my friends (the characters) who I haven’t talked to in a while!! I’ve missed them 🙂 The easiest way to explain it is, I don’t “think” of the dialogue. I just sit in my quiet space (not always easy with 3 kids!) and I “listen” to the characters and then write what they say. Yes, I admit it, I “hear voices”. As a certified school counselor I’m pretty sure I’m not crazy, LOL! As I was loading my 2-year-old into the car today, a complete scene of the new booked popped into my head. My son asks, “What are you looking at, Mom?” I realized I must have been staring off into space “seeing” the scene unfold. Ha! ha! And so Indigo Instinct is born. So excited to begin! If you thought Indigo Incite was good, just wait….
